HomeAbout Us

dignity, purpose, self-determination

Home In Place members and volunteers are inspired by the idea that all stages of life offer meaningful opportunities for growth, connection and joy.

Our members include both Villagers and those supporters who are Supporting or Sustaining Members. To foster fellowship and engagement in the community, Home In Place sponsors social gatherings, workshops, and cultural outings open to all members.

Our Villagers are members (age 60+) who have joined Home In Place to receive services that help them maintain their independence -- that help them continue living in their own homes and remaining active in our community. Dedicated volunteers provide Villagers with services and social opportunities that include transportation, small handyman jobs, technology assistance, check-in calls, and friendly visits.

The director of Home In Place monitors and coordinates the matching of volunteers with Villagers’ service requests.

Villages...
...are innovative grassroots organizations - member driven, and self-governing

...reflect needs of their members

...offer Villagers greater choices for living arrangements

...provide all members with opportunities for engagement and connectedness

national Villages movement

Home In Place is modeled after the first “Village for Aging in Place,” Beacon Hill Village in Boston, started more than 20 years ago. Today there are over 350 Villages in the U.S. Home In Place joins villages in Hunstville and Auburn in serving those aging in place.

The term, Village, refers to a virtual community of individuals with similar goals, not a physical structure or bricks-and-mortar residential community. Members and volunteers work together, creating social capital through mutually beneficial activities and services.

Home In Place is a member of the national Village to Village Network.
